The Hungarian airline Malev, went bankrupt and ceased the flights after 66 years of activity

Date: 06/02/2012

Malev went bankrupt this week, under special protection from creditors and the government appointed a special administrator.

The providers have started to demand advance payments for their services and the government couldn't finance the company as the European Commission prohibited in January.

All the flights were suspended starting 5:00 GMT (6:00 local time in Budapest).

Malev generated 40% of annual turnover of the international airport in Budapest and had a fleet of 22 aircrafts, contracted in lease.

The Hungarian government has failed to privatize the company with 2,600 employees. Wizz Air announced Friday that offers Malev passengers stranded in airports special discounted tickets to Budapest for 9900 HUF, equivalent to 45 US Dollars.
