Pilot project in the West Region, in cooperation with North Karelia region from Finland

25/01/2013

The representatives of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences and of the Finnish Forest Research Institute will come in the West Region, during 28 - 29 January 2013 in a study visit on renewable energy from biomass.

The visit takes place as a result of the elaboration by the West Regional Development Agency within the CO2FREE project, financed through the INTERREG IVC program, an action plan aiming to use biomass in order to produce renewable energy.

The CO2FREE objective is to provide regional and local authorities specific tools to address concepts of energy efficiency and sustainable transport through the development of action plans in collaboration with interested regional stakeholders and to be implemented in future development programs financed by Structural Funds in each partner region.

The 9 partner regions have identified best practices in renewable energy, green ICT, energy efficiency and transport, and Western Region will benefit from expertise from the organizations that have developed these best practices.

Thus, based on this plan, the Finnish experts will assess the forest biomass resources in West Region, which could be used for renewable energy. During the evaluation will be a pilot project in Berzasca commune, Caras-Severin County.

On the first day of the visit, January 28, 2013, will take place in Timisoara, meetings with the representatives of the energy sector and with the heating public service operators. And on January 29, 2013, the Finish experts will have the study visit in Berzasca commune, for documentation and analysis.
