The works on the western Romania highways will start in the autumn

TRANSPORT Ministry representatives have said that in September-October, will begin the works on most sections of Nadlac - Sibiu highway. The works will start on the following parts: Nadlac - Arad (38.9 km), Timisoara - Lugoj (35.6 km), a section of highway with the length of 28 km from Lugoj - Deva section, Deva - Orastie (32.8 km) and Orastie - Sibiu (82 km).

The deadline for finalising the works is the year 2013, except for a section of 80 km of highway Lugoj - Deva, which will be put into operation in 2016. The Corridor IV from Constanta - Arad highway has only one section without funding: Sibiu - Ramnicu Valcea - Pitesti section. It is a sum amounting to about three billion euros, amount which would be covered through a public-private partnership.

Romania has 300 km of highway finalized and about 280 km with work in progress. Pan-European Corridor IV begins in Germany, at Nuremberg, and continue on the route Prague - Vienna - Bratislava - Budapest. In Romania, the route passes through Nadlac, Arad, Deva, Orastie, Sibiu, Bucharest, Fetesti, Constanta and the route continues to Istanbul .
