The Council for Transport, Telecommunications and Energy of the European Union decided to extend the Trans-European Transport Network with five routes in Romania.

The five routes that were approved cover both rail and road infrastructure. The routes are: Timisoara-Sebes-Turda-Targu-Mures-Iasi-Ungheni, Calafat-Craiova-Alexandria-Bucuresti, Bors-Turda and Constanţa-Tulcea-Braila-Galati.

Trans-European Transport Network includes all modes of transport and supplies almost half the passenger traffic and merchandise.

Following the decision, the total length of the Trans-European Transport Network will double the road transport mode and will increase by 40% the rail transport mode.

The Trans-European Transport Network is planned on two levels, central and global network. The central network is composed of the most important strategically and economically nodes and connections for the European Union including all modes of transport. The global network will ensure the central network's accessibility. Will also connect all the European Union regions, will be multimodal and will provide basic infrastructure for intermodal transport services for passengers and merchandise.
