The historical center of Timisoara will be rehabilitated until 2015

The mayor announced that a grant contract for the rehabilitation of the public spaces in the historical center of Timisoara was signed within the Regional Operational Program 2007-2013, Priority axis 1.

Four markets - "Unirii" Square, "Libertatii" Square, "Sfantul Gheorghe" Square, "Tarcului" Square-  and ten streets - Sergent Constantin Musat, Vasile Alecsandri (on the section between „Unirii" Square and Libertatii Square), Lucian Blaga (on the section between Libertatii Square and Huniade Square), Florimund Mercy, Francesco Grisselini, strada Fara Nume, Radu Negru, Eugeniu de Savoya, General Praporgescu şi Enrico Carusso are targeted for rehabilitation.

The total value of the project is 65.5 million lei. The road and technical infrastructure will be rehabilitated (water, sewage, heating, including street lighting and telecommunications networks), the traffic will be reorganized, the historic center will be completely redone. Banks will be located along the street and also there will be mounted electronic display panels for touristic information. All telecommunications cables will be buried underground according to the project.

The rehabilitation works will be performed in stages. The first is expected to start in June 2012, "Libertatii" Square (estimated execution period: 12 months) and "Sfantul Gheorghe" Square (18 months), Florimund Mercy Street (12 months), Strada Fara Nume Street (6 months), General Praporgescu Street (6 months) and Enrico Carusso Street (6 months).

In September 2013 are scheduled to start the works  in "Unirii" Square (12 months execution) and "Tarcului" Square (9 months), in December 2013 the one's on the streets: Alecsandri (12 months), Lucian Blaga (6 months) and Eugeniu of Savoya (12 months), in June 2014 on the street Fracesco Griselini (9 months), and in September 2014 on the streets , Serg. Constantin Musat (6 months) and Radu Negru (6 months).
