Training programme for European managers in Japan

The EU-Japan Centre is currently calling for applications for the Human Ressources Training Programme - Japan Industry Insight (HRTP). This 4/5-week programme in Japan provides an outstanding opportunity for EU companies to acquire within a short time an integrated in-depth view of Japanese industrial structure and business practices. The programme is targeted at EU managers.

The programme consists of a combination of:

· lectures,
· joint seminar
· company visits
and is designed to help participants become thoroughly informed about the actual conditions of Japanese business through practical analysis and research. This involves a better comprehension of the language, economy, history and politics of the country, as well as practical business experiences, which take place in the HRTP. The 4-week course may be extended by an optional 5th week of individual company visits.

HRTP is targeted at small, medium and large enterprises, more specifically at managers who:
- have a major role in defining and implementing their companies' policies vis-à-vis Japan, or
- are to be transferred to Japan, or
- come from companies intending to supply Japanese companies at home or abroad, or
- wish to learn about management practices and technological developments in Japan.

Eligibility - the candidate:
- must be a citizen of an EU Member State;
- must work for an organisation that is an EU juridical person *;
- must be supported by their employer and be able to participate in the entire programme;
- must have a reasonable command of English;
- should be a manager or an executive from industrial companies;
- should have a minimum of 5 to 10 years' experience in industry.

* Footnote 1:
a juridical person means any legal entity duly constituted or otherwise organized under applicable law, whether for profit or otherwise, and whether privately-owned or governmentally-owned, including any corporation, trust, partnership, joint venture, sole proprietorship or association.

The main criteria for selection are:


- the professional & educational background of the candidate;
- the strategy of the participant's company regarding Japan;

Costs

The EU-Japan Centre will cover costs relating to accommodation (at a hotel chosen by the Centre), tuition, travel costs for visits, interpretation, etc. for the first four weeks of the programme.
Accommodation costs of a single room for participants staying at a local hotel, selected by the Centre, will be also covered.

SMEs (*): to facilitate small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) participation in the course, participants from SMEs can apply for a scholarship to get JPY ¥10,000 per day towards their living expenses. They must complete the ‘scholarship request - self-assessment declaration' form that will be sent to them once the EU-Japan Centre has offered a place on the course.

Participants' companies must pay a (refundable) deposit of €2,000 to guarantee the place on the course. The deposit will be refunded c. 8 weeks after the course, minus any unpaid bills, provided that the participant attends the entire course and submits any and all reports the Centre asks him/her to make.

Other companies (*): participants' companies must pay a (non-refundable) contribution of €2,000 towards the costs incurred by the EU-Japan Centre in relation to the company's participation.

If, for whatever reason, a participant cannot take up his / her confirmed place, the deposit / contribution will NOT be refunded.
