European Commission gives money for a new section of the Lugoj - Deva highway

The European Commission approved the non reimbursable financing from European funds for the construction of Lugoj-Deva highway. It is about the section that starts from Lugoj and goes to Dumbrava. The amount of European funds provided for this road section is of 177.4 million euro. The total value of works amounts to 206 million euro, the remaining money being provided from the budget funds.

The project "The construction of Lugoj-Deva highway (Lugoj-Dumbrava road section)" aims to design, supervise and construct a highway with two lanes between Lugoj and Dumbrava with a length of 27.47 km. This road section is a part of the highway that will link the cities Lugoj and Deva.

The projects includes also the construction of 11.43 km of connection roads, of 5 bridges, a viaduct, 17 passages, 4 interchanges and a parking and services area.

The construction of this highway section is expected to reduce the average travel time to 20 minutes and the rate of accidents by 62.3%.

Lugoj-Deva highway is a part of Corridor IV, which begins in Germany, Nuremberg and continues on the route Prague-Vienna-Bratislava-Budapest. In Romania the route passes through Nadlac-Arad-Deva-Orastie-Sibiu-Bucuresti-Fetesti - Constanta and continues to Istambul.
