08/09/2011

Petrom, Rompetrol and Dacia - three internal companies in top 50 - managed to gain ground in the classification compiled by Deloitte, although the local economy has crossed the second consecutive year of recession. Rompetrol has climbed up from 70th place a year ago, up to position 24, while Dacia Automobile has won eight positions - (the position 42 in 2010).

The Deloitte study's authors note that "Romania has increased the level of representation in Central Europe top 50". The study shows that the local firms have reached a market share of 8% from 6% last year. Thus, 38 companies from Romania are present in the top by comparison to 33 last year.

However, although Romania is the third largest market in the region by the number of inhabitants, being surpassed only by Poland and Ukraine, the number of companies which entered the top places the local market on the 5th rank after Poland, The Czech Republic, Hungary and Ukraine.

One of the best evolutions in the classification made by Deloitte comes from the Romanian company Petroleum Services Group.

The Petroleum Services Group is the largest Romanian business by the turnover in 2010 and exceeds RCS&RDS, a constant presence in the charts in the latest years. Furthermore, GSP occupies the second place among the biggest 500 companies in Central Europe, considering the business' growth rate of 150 % in 2010 compared to 2009.

Regarding the top of the CEE banks, Romania has a representative among top 10. Deloitte placed the Romanian Commercial Bank on the 9th rank from the 15 markets analyzed. Furthermore, in top 50, Romania has another financial institution BRD Groupe Societe Generale like Slovenia.
