The West Region was established by Government authorization on October 28, 1998 and covers four counties: Arad, Caraş-Severin, Hunedoara and Timiş. The point of intersection of major European roads, where Western and Eastern cultures interact, the West Region - Romania borders Hungary and Serbia, as part of the Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisza (DKMT) Euroregion including the four Romanian counties, four counties in Hungary and the independent region of Voivodina, in Serbia. The Euroregion was established in 1997, based on a Cooperation Agreement signed by representatives of local authorities in the member areas.
