Steady economic growth

The dynamic features of the West Region economy comes from the density of the companies located here, which was of 23.3 businesses per 1,000 inhabitants in 2012. Although the value has suffered a decline from the next year - 29.9 active businesses per 1,000 inhabitants in 2011, in the context of economic crisis the indicator was above the national average throughout the period analyzed.

In 2012, in West Region there were over 57 000 active companies, of which a significant percentage of 13.2% foreign direct investment which had a profit estimated at around 400 million euro.

The economic life of the region brings two areas to the foreground: on the one hand, the economic centers of Arad and Timisoara have secured themselves a relative economic diversity, and on the other hand, the urban centers in the counties of Caras-Severin and Hunedoara, focused on mono-industrial activities, which have become industry benchmarks due to the intensive use of raw materials and related productive activities.

The West Region displays an intense and dynamic activity of international trade, but there are wide variations from one county to another within the region. Still, the average of the trade balance in the West Region shows that exports have surpassed imports in 2013.
