FRESH project - Forwarding Regional Environmental Hierarchies

International seminar dedicated to construction sector organized by West Regional Development Agency

Tuesday, June 8th 2010, starting at 15.00 pm, took place in the Senate Hall of "Politehnica" University Timisoara (Piata Victoriei no. 2, 1st floor) the international seminar on "Policies and good practices on sustainability in the construction sector at European level".

This event helped to establish the connection between West Region and other regions of EU and to exchange best practices in construction sustainability field - constructions that respect and protect the environment both by design and by provided utilities.

During the seminar experts in innovation and sustainability in constructions delievered presentations - representatives of GREENOVATE & Logotech Greece - Mr George Strogylopoulos and Mr Nikos Maroulis. Also, experts were present from sustainable and profitable buildings of Romanian Green Building Council NGO - Mr Steven Borncamp, CEO, and Mrs. Anca Bieru, Director of Public Affairs as well as representatives from the 12 organizations from six countries (Romania, Poland, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, Finland).

The first Regional Advisory Group in sustainable construction

On October 27th, 2010, West Regional Development Agency held the first meeting of the Regional Advisory Group in the field of sustainable construction. This Regional Advisory Group brought together representatives of public bodies, research centers and representatives of Architecture and Construction Faculties from "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, construction , architecture and design companies as well as members of specialized organizations from West Region.

In 15 Martie 2011, the second meeting of the Regional Advisory Group in the field of sustainable construction, took place. This meeting was followed by the event entitled: "Renewable energy investments in West Region Romania". Please find more information here.

Tuesday, 15th of March 2011, West Regional Development Agency organized the event entitled „Renewable energy investments in West Region Romania" with the purpose of building a communication platform for renewable energy theme in West Region and the introduction of the "eco" component inside the regional planning documents.

There were 2 components that splited the event in two parts. The discussions part, about new investments in renewable energies in West region, new production facility in the field of solar photovoltaic pannelst, the legal mechanism of connecting to the power  grid and the visiting part, organized to Timisoara City Business Centre and the new Siliken plant.

FRESH Project Presentation

Program Monitoring Committee approved on November 5th, 2009, FRESH project - "Forwarding Regional Environmental Hierarchies". The project has a budget of 2.1 million euro, will last for 3 years starting early February 2010 and it was proposed by a consortium of 12 organizations from six European Union Member States: Finland, Ireland, Italy, Poland, United Kingdom and Romania. West Regional Development Agency, as partner in the consortium, has a budget of 100,000 euro.

The project's objective is to integrate "eco" innovation component (innovation to reduce the negative environmental impact) in regional innovation strategies and other planning documents of the partners and to create regional instruments that promote both economic growth and protect the environment. West Region's aim in participating in this project is to exploit and strengthen the sustainable component of regional development by encouraging some production chains able to bring added value and innovation in the regional economy addressed to companies and fields of activity that contribute effectively to West Region's prosperity, meanwhile generating life and environment quality.

West RDA invites you to fill in FRESH Template on Good Practice in several main sectors in West Region:

  • Automotive
  • ICT
  • Constructions
  • Renewable energy
  • Agriculture

These examples of projects or practices (methods, products, research results, etc) will be promoted on European level by FRESH Project.
