West Region joined the European Regions Network for the Application of Communications Technology - ERNACT

West Region has become a full member of the European Regions Network for the Application of Communications Technology - ERNACT. The official vote for becoming a member took place on Thursday, January 26 in Brussels.

West Region was represented within the event by the West Regional Development Agency, through the General Director, Mr Sorin MAXIM  and Mrs. Raluca Cibu - BUZAC , the  Director of Regional Policy and Internationalization , along with Mr. Iosif Matula - Member of European Parliament and vice-President of the European Popular Party in the REGI Committee (Committee on Regional Development of the European Parliament) and also by Mr. Nicolae ROBU - Rector of the University Politehnica in Timisoara and member of the Romanian Parliament. 

The purpose to participate in this meeting was to present to the other members the West Region and also to attend at the reception of West Region in ERNACT .

West Regional Development Agency (West RDA) is a ERNACT partner within the Co2Free project („Cooperating 2 Foster Renewable and Energy Efficiency") - Project under implementation. Through the Co2Free project, West Region benefits of expertise from European organizations with experience in areas such as renewable energy, energy and transport efficiency. The Action Plans developed under the project will be implemented through future development programs financed by Structural Funds.

Currently West RDA alongside the Regional Cluster of Information and Communications Technology - West Region, Romania (cluster whose initiator is West RDA), cooperates with ERNACT also within the project, „ Developing Mobile HEALTH technologies based Regional Research Agendas". The project is submitted for funding under the Framework Programme 7 for research, technological development and demonstration activities of the European Union.

ERNACT was founded in 1990. The network consists of local and regional authorities in several European regions. ERNACT's  mission is to build the next generation of infrastructure and ICT services (Information and Communications Technology) - a generation necessary to support the development of public services, social solidarity and employment. The Network aims to promote the economy based on knowledge and the information society in the partner regions, especially by developing and implementing cross-border,  inter-regional and transnational projects for helping to define regional development models based on ICT.

So far, ERNACT implemented over 20 projects in ICT. The implemented projects aimed for the developing of the following areas: e-governance, development of the online public consultation, e-procurement, mobile technology, broadband high-speed e-business and cooperation networks for small and medium enterprises.
