West Region (Romania) and North Region (Republic of Moldova) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on regional development

West Region, consisting of Arad, Caras-Severin, Hunedoara and Timis counties, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on regional development with North Region from Republic of Moldova. The signing of the memorandum took place at Arad County Council, in the presence of local and regional authorities, representatives of regional business and mass media from the West Region.

The signatories of the memorandum were: Mr. Nicolae Iotcu, the President of Arad County Council and of West Regional Development Council, Mr. Sorin Maxim, General Director of West Regional Development Agency, Mr. Ion Parea, President of North Regional Development Council (Republic of Moldova) and Mr. Ion Bodrug, General Director of North Regional Development Agency (Republic of Moldova).

The main objective of the memorandum is to facilitate best practices between the two regions, given that North Region from republic of Moldova considers West Region a good example for the management of pre and post accession funds and of regional development policies in general. Among the activities to take place within the memorandum are: participation as partners in projects funded by the European Commission, exchanging experience (on issues of cross-border cooperation, the most important projects in the regions) and training courses to develop technical skills, development of regional projects and identifying financial resources for implementation. In this regard, during the current month, West Regional Development Agency and the North Regional Development Agency (Republic of Moldova) have prepared a project of international cooperation on energy efficiency in public buildings in the two regions, and in other seven countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
